How many times have you been looking through your CD collection or scrolling through your MP3 player and thought to yourself, "Hmmmm… Do I want to listen to the hard-rocking, metal sounds of Metallica, or do I want to listen to the gentle harmonies of The Beatles? Gosh, I wish there was a way that I could combine these two sounds and not have to make such a tough decision"? Well, now your prayers have been answered in a band called Beatallica. This band is not local, and like their name implies, their sound is a combination of The Beatles and Metallica. Now, I know that I don't normally review bands or CDs that are not local, but this band was so unique that I had to make an exception. They were first brought to my attention by a fellow music critic, who had heard of them through a press release. Knowing that I write for this magazine, he thought that this band would be perfect for our readers. He was right. If you have not heard this band, then you have to get on your computer and listen to them. Since they do not yet have a CD, the most convenient way to listen to them right now is to visit their MySpace® page at Once there, you can download their music.

The first song that I listened to was called "Sandman," and I was a little disappointed. I thought that I would be hearing The Beatles sung heavy, and this just seemed to be a modified cover of "Enter Sandman," with more cursing than the original.

I then clicked on "A Garage Dayz Night," thinking that this one HAD to be a version of The Beatles’ "A Hard Day’s Night." This song is so much fun and it really rocks! If you're looking for the tight harmonies of The Beatles, you will be disappointed, but if you're looking for The Beatles with a little more balls and a little less flower power, then this band is going to thrill you.

My favorite song that they have online is entitled "And I'm Evil." It is Beatallica's version of "And I Love Her." It took me a few moments to place this beautiful ballad, because there is nothing soft and sweet about this version at all. Once I placed it, however, I was hooked. You just can't help but listen to it over and over and want to download it.

The good news is that soon we will be able to buy more music from this unusual band, as they are releasing a CD on July 10 called Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band. The album will include the following songs:

1.    Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band

2.    Revol-ooh-tion

3.    Blackened the U.S.S.R.

4.    Sandman

5.    Helvester of Skelter

6.    A Garage Dayz Nite

7.    Anesthesia (I'm Only Sleeping)

8.    Leper Madonna

9.    Ktulu (He's So Heavy)

10.    For Horsemen

11.    Hey Dude

12.    Sgt. Hetfield's (Reprise)

13.    …And Justice For All My Loving

Pick it up. It will make you smile.
